P R A C T I C E
throughout the practice unit i undertook two live briefs including the bradford textiles competition and the michael kidner and flowers east gallery project. i designed a collection of prints for an interior context both with different colour palette and points of inspiration.
taking inspiration from my trip to turkey and america, i started to collect photographic images of patterns within arcitecture. During my time in turkey i started to draw from the sites i went to such as old ruins and exterior patterns in walls. During my time in ameirca i visited the art institute in chicago and visited the islamic art section when i gained knowledge and interest into their textile and pottery industy. Using a modern colour palette i put together it gave my collection a contrast between the old and the new. by developing my old style drawings with my modern colour palette gave my designs a transformed and innovative mood.

michael kidner & flowers east gallery
i started to underpin different elements of early works of michael kidner. developing a range of motifs whcih have been inspired by different aspects of his work, i started to develop a set of designs. focusing on his use of abstract and linear work, i also worked with a colour palette i found suitable for this particular project. playing on the contrast of colours, kidner used alot of primary colours which i found to be very garish at first but soon became a signifucant part of the collection.
Only developing one final print, i designed a repeat pattern for an interior context. focusing on voile curtians, as these are usually a lightweight fabric designing a light and airy pattern was something i was keen to do.
